The Red Lion interior — flowers and fireplace

Soham, Cambridgeshire

A Pub with History

Our Story

Four Centuries in the Heart of Soham

Opened in 2017 after a two-year renovation by renowned interior designer, Peter Leonard. After buying the property in 2017, Peter painstakingly restored this beautiful 17th Century thatched pub after many decades of neglect.

Peter scoured restoration yards, antiques shops and eBay for art, furniture and other accoutrements.Every detail was considered and addressed with thoughtful consideration.

Our Approach

Honest, Interesting Food

We cook seasonal British food, sourced as locally as we can manage and prepared with care. The menu changes to follow what is good — not what is fashionable — and we take as much pride in a well-kept pint as we do in a perfectly rested piece of beef.

Inspired by my late father, Michael Jarman of The Old Fire engine House, I’ve always considered wine to be an imperative part of any meal. Our wine list features many French classics as well as wines from the New World, Hungary and Romania. We also stock a wide range of craft gins, local beer on tap from Brewboard Brewery, and a great array of cocktails.
